  • Just saw the news and interview last night at CNN.

a Singaporean claims that he can fix football matches.

    full story from telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10480640/Football-match-fixing-referees-embroiled-in-scandal.html

  • After the big scandal in Italy I guess it's just a matter of time before the bubble bursts in other European countries as well.

  • I'm not surprised at all; a naive kid in me doesn't want to believe it, but that's the reality.

  • I feel sad after reading stories like that, and honestly want to believe that sport will prevail!

  • Sickening but I will say that some of the decisions I've seen in matches made me wonder if the ref got a payoff.

  • Well, I think you have to cover the referee if you really want a serious set-up :)

  • I think the best deals can be made with goalkeepers and defenders. Take the scandal in Italy for instance, they bribed a defender and the lad scored a beautiful own goal :)

  • Awe that's just a shame, a sport that is so loved had to be tainted. It's just the beginning of what will come out.

  • I would go with a goalie-referee, can't go wrong :)

Joke aside, it is really weird seeing those weird penalties...

Seems that sports are no longer being what they used to... What a shame...

  • Here's a fresh scandal: eleven men in Estonia have been charged on suspicion of fixing 17 soccer matches, including three Europa League matches. 12 Estonian top-flight matches, one Estonian cup and one Lithuanian game are also under investigation. Apparently the group of 11 men have pocketed around £90,000 in total to fix those matches.

What's even more interesting is that the prosecutor says there were Estonian, Lithuanian and Ukrainian clubs that signed players they knew were willing to fix matches. Seems this plague is spreading way beyond what we could imagine.

  • It is a sad world we live in - and it is how it is - many many sports maybe even all sports has probably had some form of match fixing to some degree in the past or still at present - the ones that stick out is the sports that was less well known that kinda got under the radar.

Take for example this latest one in the uk - it is only related to lower league clubs as i read it, not the premier clubs - after all why would the premier league clubs risk there position in a club when they already earn a fortune compared to the lower league clubs, im not a football expert i dont follow football, i do watch some sports, it is sad that this goes on, because people are betting and losing real money on these sports and it is disgusting but what can we do - what can many people do, its hard, thats why it still goes on in some form in many sports, it is another one of those things that is very hard to police - like many other things in this world that is bad and wrong (morally or not)

anyway my little monologue or an epilogue to this thread maybe makes this is complete :) haha

  • Yes, awful things for sports are happening everywhere.

In Serbian Super League a player from one of two strongest teams actually "suggested" a referee to call for a penalty.

    Here's the

but I don't know if it going to be clear enough. Such things happen very often; that was just one example.
  • thanks for the video, though not clear enough as you said.

anyway, i hope athletes just play as good as it should be. sports should be sports and not some money-oriented fiasco. credibility is something that has been a big question to all sports in the world and maybe not just sports.

@dreamrj, nice signature. i haven't smoked in 2 months now.
