Djokovic wins in tears
« on: April 20, 2012, 03:09:20 AM »
I guess you've all heard about Novak Djokovic and what he has done yesterday. He was just preparing for the Monte Carlo match against Dolgopolov when he received the sad news that his grandfather died.

He burst into tears and left the court.

Everybody was expecting him to pull out of the tournament but he didn't. He came back on the court, won the game, and only started to cry again after winning the match point.

This reminds me of a match back in 1995, at the Australian Open, when Pete Sampras was crying during his match against Jim Courier after hearing that his coach was battling cancer.

All very moving videos.  I'm amazed he won his match.  He is an incredible player.

It was very difficult to watch, I thought he would pull out, but he didn't. He won again today with lots of ups and downs during the match which was understandable. Amazing player, very professional.

It was obvious that Djokovic couldn't play well enough for Nadal today. It was an amazing thing that he got to the final. Congrets to Nadal, he played well and stayed focused.

You are right Markotik, Nadal played very good tennis and it was nearly impossible for Djokovic to pull it off given the circumstances. By the way, it's Nadal's 8th consecutive win at Monte Carlo.

Yes, that's right. Nadal is really incredible on clay. As much as I understand the clay in Monte Carlo, along with Barcelona, is the slowest one. So, when you get "trapped" in Nadal's game, there's no way out.
