Inter will be looking to close the gap on the top five teams when they face fourth-placed Lazio at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Wednesday. Lazio have beaten Inter in both matches last season, 2-1 in Milan and 2-0 in Rome, and Inter have won just two of the last six direct meetings. Inter have not beaten Lazio at home since 2014, when Mauro Icardi and Rodrigo Palacio led them to a memorable 4-1 victory at San Siro.
Inter seem to have regained some form and confidence under new head coach Stefano Pioli, they are on a three-match winning streak in all competitions after a very shaky start to the season. They are currently seventh in the league table, seven points behind fourth-placed Lazio, so a victory here would significantly boost their hopes of moving up towards the top five. Last weekend they secured a 1-0 victory at Sassuolo, not an easy away match, while the week before they recorded a 2-0 home win over Genoa. Joao Mario and Felipe Melo are suspended, while Gary Medel is out injured.
Lazio are in the fight for a top-three spot and the promise of Champions League football that goes with such a placement, but the battle is quite fierce as it also involves AS Roma, Napoli and AC Milan. Only two points separate all those four teams behind leaders Juventus, so anything but a win could see Lazio slip to fifth place. After losing the derby against AS Roma at the start of December, Lazio secured two consecutive wins, away at Sampdoria and at home against Fiorentina. Patric is the only injury concern for head coach Simone Inzaghi, so he will most likely field his standard starting eleven.

Great win for Inter and I must admit an unexpected one for me, Lazio flying high this season and 3-0 is just a smashing defeat for their ambitions. Inter proved to be one of the most inconsistent teams in the league and they could literally win or loose against any team. Still will be tough for them to chase the spots...

I think this match will be a low scoring one. Internazioanle are a clear favoirte one here, because Lazio seemed too weak against Rome at home. In my opinion Internazionale will win 1-0 or 2-1 against Lazio. Icardi is prolific goalscorer, he's too good to Seria A. So I think Inter will win by 1 goal and Icardi will score...
