Championship: Steve Bruce in talks with Aston Villa
Aston Villa are looking for a new manager after having sacked Roberto Di Matteo earlier this week and it seems Steve Bruce is now the favourite for the job. Bruce, a former manager of rivals Birmingham City, has already held talks with Aston Villa representatives. Di Matteo was sacked after less than half a year in charge as the club failed to win any of their last nine matches and sit in 19th place in the Championship table. For Aston Villa the target for the season is to bounce back into the Premier League and Steve Bruce surely has the perfect CV for that endeavour. He has won promotion to the Premier League on four occasions so far and his last job was at Hull City after achieving the promotion to the top-flight. He gave up the job despite the success as the club was put up for sale. Assistant manager Steve Clarke is in charge as caretaker manager until a new boss is appointed. A few other managers have been considered for the job, including Burnley boss Sean Dyche, Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy and Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner. The Huddersfield Town boss stated that he is not interested in switching clubs at the moment. Aston Villa are 6/1 at Bet365 to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the current season.
