Premier League: Bastian Schweinsteiger included in Manchester United squad
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has decided to include former Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger in his 25-man Premier League squad. The 32-year-old player had been told by Mourinho that he should find himself another club as there would be very few opportunities for him to play for the Red Devils this season. Schweinsteiger, a former Germany captain and World Cup winner, retired from international football this week after 121 caps and 24 goals scored for his nation. The Premier League regulations require all 20 clubs to submit 25-man squads but they can field Under-21 players without having to register them. Manchester United will be able to use first-team players like Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial above the registration limit. Schweinsteiger is under contract with Manchester United until July 2018 but this summer he had to train either alone or with the reserves squad after Jose Mourinho took charge. The German midfielder refused to move to another club in Europe, even though Manchester United were willing to let him go without a transfer fee. Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick are the five central midfielders that Jose Mourinho prefers to use for the two spots available in the middle of the pitch. Manchester United are 11/4 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.
