Premier League: Everton in talks with Napoli for Manolo Gabbiadini
Everton manager Ronald Koeman continues to strengthen his squad as reports in the Italian media claim the Toffees are currently negotiating the transfer of striker Manolo Gabbiadini from Serie A side Napoli. The Italian club want 25 million pounds for the player, aged 24, and an initial offer worth around 20 million pounds was rejected. Gabbiadini was bought by Napoli in January 2015 for 10 million pounds from Sampdoria. Gabbiadini scored 20 goals during his spell at Napoli but he was not selected in the Italy squad for Euro 2016. He does have six caps for his country but his last presence in the Italy team was in September 2015. He started his professional career at Atalanta, then moved to Juventus in 2012 but never managed to play for the Serie A champions before being sold to Sampdoria in 2013. Everton have spent over 50 million pounds in the transfer market this summer. They have sold defender John Stones to Manchester City for around 47 million pounds but spent nearly 25 million on Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace, 12 million on central defender Ashley Williams from Swansea and around 7 on Idrissa Gueye from relegated Aston Villa. Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg also joined the club as a replacement for veteran Tim Howard, who moved back to the USA. Everton are 2/1 at SkyBet to clinch a top-six finish in the Premier League this season.
