Premier League: Liverpool reject Crystal Palace bid for Christian Benteke
Liverpool have turned down an offer from Crystal Palace for a out-of-favour striker Christian Benteke. The Eagles offered 23 million pounds and another 7 million in add-ons. In July they had made an offer worth 25 million pounds for the Belgium striker, but the bid was rejected by Liverpool. The powerful striker joined the Reds last summer from Aston Villa for 32.5 million pounds. After manager Brendan Rodgers got sacked Benteke lost his place in the starting eleven, as new boss Jurgen Klopp found other players more suitable to his style. The 25-year-old forward was not included in the Liverpool squad for the opening match of the Premier League season, which the Reds won 4-3 at Arsenal. He appeared in the starting line up only eight times under Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool probably want to sell him for the exact same amount they paid to Aston Villa last summer, but given his poor campaign last season they might be forced to settle for less. Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is in need of a solid striker after the squad lost Emmanuel Adebayor. Marouane Chamakh, Dwight Gayle and Yannick Bolasie and will most likely do whatever it takes to sign one before the end of the transfer window. Benteke is under contract with Liverpool until 2020. Crystal Palace kicked off the campaign with a 1-0 loss at home to West Brom and they are 4/1 at Bet365 to secure a top-ten Premier League finish this season.
