AC Milan have reached an agreement with Vincenzo Montella to appoint them as their new head coach on a two-year deal. Montella, aged 42, takes over from former Milan player Cristian Brocchi, who held interim charge after Sinisa Mihajlovic got sacked in April. Milan only managed to finish seventh in the Serie A last season and also lost the Italian Cup final against Juventus.
Montella will earn 2.3 million euro during his two-year contract with AC Milan while Sampdoria, his former club, received 500,000 euro in compensation. AC Milan said in an official club statement that they were looking forward to Montella's "brilliant system of play". The former striker took charge of Sampdoria in November 2015 and managed to steer the club clear of relegation.
Vincenzo Montella has been one of the most prolific strikers in Italian football during the 1990s, scoring 183 goals in 373 league appearances for Empoli, Genoa, Sampdoria and Roma. He only managed 3 goals in 20 appearances for the Italian national team, while a brief stint with Fulham produced just 2 goals in 10 league appearances. His managerial career started in 2011 when he replaced Claudio Ranieri as head coach of AS Roma. He has also managed Catania, Fiorentina and Sampdoria, but has not won any trophies yet.
AC Milan are 25/1 at Bet365 to win the Serie A title next season.

He was really great player and particularly a goal scorer, one of those not so physically gifted players but the one which is always dangerous in the box. Obviously Milan needs some changes but I don't think changing the coach every few months for years would ever have a positive effect over the team. It's a shame how...

Obviously Milan needs some changes but I don't think changing the coach every few months for years would ever have a positive effect over the team. It's a shame how bad is this great club in the last years but that's all thanks to the poor management of the team.

I think this is a good move by Milan club administration to give a chance Montella . Montella is a young coach who will be as good coach as he was a player . He was an excellent striker , I remember when he played at Roma , I enjoyed watching him play. I think that as a coach to bring something new and useful to the club...

After Clarence Seedorf, Filippo Inzaghi and Cristian Brocchi AC Milan still trying to find a right fit in their ex players for a manager position. Out of all this names that I stated above Vincenzo Montella has the most experience and should have higher chances to success. But, in competition with Juventus, Napoli and recently purchased by Chinese Internazionale it is going to be hard battle. AC Milan is a team that always expects not title challenges, but titles itself. They need to remodel their team completely, as their current squad just doesn't have what it takes to win Seria A.
