Back Premier League: Leicester City set to sign goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler

Premier League champions Leicester City are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper and it seems the chose one is Hannover 96 goalie Ron-Robert Zieler. The German club have released an official statement confirming that the offer from Leicester matched the release clause in Zieler's contract, so the player is free to discuss terms with the Premier League champions. Zieler, aged 27, has six caps for Germany. Leicester have not yet commented on the possible transfer.

Hannover's statement said: "Ron-Robert Zieler has exercised the option right enshrined in his contract and Hannover 96 has been informed that he will travel to the English champions Leicester City for contract talks. In addition, the 27-year-old goalkeeper will complete the sports medical examinations in England." Zieler has played in England before as he started his career as a professional footballer at Manchester City in 2008. He didn't get to play for the Red Devils though but was sent on loan at Northampton.

He joined Hannover in 2010 and went on to make 200 appearances for the club. His solid performances allowed him to be included in the Germany squad that won the World Cup in 2014, but he was just a backup goalie at the tournament. Leicester already have a solid goalkeeper in Kasper Schmeichel, but the only backup is 43-year-old veteran Mark Schwarzer. If they bring in Zieler then Schmeichel will have real competition for his place between the sticks.

Leicester City are 25/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title again next season.
