Manchester United have confirmed the sacking of manager Louis van Gaal on Monday. Jose Mourinho is set to be named as the new club manager. Louis van Gaal managed the club for two years but left before the end of his contract, which was going to expire at the end of next season. The club should confirm the appointment of former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho on Tuesday, after the Portuguese manager will have a meeting with club officials. Louis van Gaal ended his spell at Manchester United with a trophy as the Red Devils won the FA Cup on Saturday.
Van Gaal has joined Manchester United after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he led the Netherlands to the semi-finals. The team's success in the FA Cup was the first since 2004, when Sir Alex Ferguson's men won the competition. That wasn't enough to save his job after the club missed out on Champions League qualification by finishing fifth in the Premier League. During his first season in charge the Red Devils had finished fourth. They failed to qualify from the Champions League group though, and later got knocked out from the Europa League by rivals Liverpool.
Moreover, this season Manchester United only managed to score 49 league goals, the lowest tally since the 1989-1990 season. Jose Mourinho lost his job at Chelsea in December 2015, just seven months after celebrating the Premier League title. Former England striker Gary Lineker said on Twitter: "One thing is for sure, Mourinho is a brilliant coach and a winner. As close as you could ever get in football to guaranteeing success." Mourinho has won the league title in four different countries: in Portugal with FC Porto, the Premier League three times with Chelsea, twice the Serie A with Inter Milan and the Primera Liga with Real Madrid. He also won the Champions League twice, with Porto and Inter.
Manchester United are 11/2 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season under new boss Jose Mourinho.

Finally!!! Even the winning of the FA Cup couldn't save his job. That's have to be done even the season before because it was clear back then that there wasn't going to be any improvement under Van Gaal. I don't think Mourinho is a good option either but it's another theme.

Ah thanks God. I am not Manchester United fan but seeing what this guy did to the glory United team makes me sad. Louis Van Gaal is without a doubt a great manager. He leaded many top class teams to the glory, but this one he failed. Not only that he spent hundreds and hundreds of millions of euros, but he also failed to achieve anything. We all do agree that winning FA cup once in 2 and half years isn't enough. And not reaching Champions League means another penalty to United by their contract with Adidas.

The last two sesaons were really bad for Manchester United. I dont know if we can blame only the coach bacause some of the key players played badly. Jose murinho an excllent coach, i think he will probably improve the game of his players.

Well he did nothing special with Manchester United despite huge investment in a lot of new players. His transfer policy was awfull so im happy he left and im looking forward to see how Mourinho will lead United and which players he will bring. In two years Van Gaal statistic was 103 games 54 win 24 draw and 24 loses.
