Manchester City central defender Martin Demichelis has been charged by the English Football Association for an offence related to betting. The Argentinian, aged 35, has reportedly breached the rules 12 times in the space of just six days in 2016: between January 22 and January 28.
According to Sky Sports sources there is no indication that Demichelis fixed matches or placed bets on matches he has been playing in. However, the new rules which have been instated at the start of the 2014-15 season say that players and coaches are prevented from betting on any football match anywhere in the world. The player now has until April 5 to respond to the accusations.
He joined Manchester City in 2013 from Atletico Madrid. Demichelis has made 18 Premier League appearances this season but had a terrible display last time out against Manchester United and was substituted. His most recent match was the 2-0 Argentina win over Bolivia in the South American section of World Cup qualifying.

If Demichellis placed bets on games he played in he should be suspended, but if he didnt i dont understand whats wrong with it, sports betting is kind of hobby. And also there is a lots of ways he could even place bet on a game he played in, just give the money some one else to make a bet . I think a lots of players are...

I understand but I disagree with this rule where professional players can't place bets on football matches. Other things aside, I kinda hate this player, he never was top class for me and I'm kinda glad that he has to face charges =). If he really breached rules 12 times, at his age when he earned more money that 99% of the world population will ever see, well, make him retire. I'm looking forward to Guardiola joining Manchester City and seeing this guy going back to mid table Spanish team or something what he deserves.

"breached the rules 12 times in the space of just six days in 2016" - That says it all really, he couldn't be innocent. For me it's certain that Demichelis has broke the rules many times but I doubt he's done that for money and more so that he's placed a bet on a City game. It sounds like he wanted some fun betting and it's typical for gambler to place this many times bets in matter of days, the guy just got carried away I think but that still is not an excuse for breaking the rules.

Martin Demichelis is either innocent either very stupid guy. I don't know how much is he earning but that isn't less than 200 000 pounds a month, likely to be even more. I can't believe that he is ready to risk his career for amounts that are something like 1$ for me. I'm simply refusing to believe in this story. Man, if...

I think that the player is much easier to fix the game. Especially defensive player. Even if it has the support of goalkeeper, that's the easiest. One of the possibilities, try to make the offside trap, make a mistake, and the attacker has a 1 vs 1 with the goalkeeper. But since in this case a well-paid player,I don't believe...

These rules have never been quite clear to me. I understand that the coach can fix the game and lose on purpose, but how the player can ? Only to score an own goal or make a penalty? I do not think Manchester City player will do that , he has a lot of money , he doesn't need to bett.
