Premier League leaders Arsenal have completed their first January signing, bringing in Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Swiss club FC Basel. The 23-year-old Egypt international has traveled to London on Wednesday to sign a four-and-a-half year contract with the Gunners after having undergone a medical check.
Arsene Wenger had already confirmed the deal in the post-match conference following Arsenal's 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday. The manager added that he hoped to have the new midfielder available for next Sunday's match with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium. The club have officially announced the signing on Thursday, but the player will still need his work permit to come through before being able to take part in league matches.
Elneny has earned 39 caps for Egypt and enjoyed a good spell at FC Basel after having joined them in 2013 from El Mokawloon. He has conquered two consecutive league titles in Switzerland, reached the Europa League semi-finals and played in the Champions League with Basel. He has already made 28 appearances for the Swiss club this season, bagging 6 goals.
Arsenal are 5/4 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.

Mohamed Elneny sounds like good new addition to the team but I'm not sure that the biggest luck in Arsenal squad is in midfield. I'm still have the feeling that Wenger only buys when it comes cheap enough and this a good thing generally but I feel he have to act bravely this time, especially when he have all the funds to do it, because the difference between Arsenal in Man City in the end of the season could be in the player fitness and that of course is easier to maintain when you have a wider squad.

Mohamed Elneny is a very good player, defensive midfielder. Last season he played excellent (seven goals and added three assists in thirty-three games). He has a similar style games like Paul Pogba from Juventus and Nemanja Matic from Chelsea. He scores from the distance, that is what Arsenal needs to keep the opposition...

He has a similar style games like Paul Pogba from Juventus and Nemanja Matic from Chelsea. He scores from the distance, that is what Arsenal needs to keep the opposition under pressure, perhaps with Mohamed Arsenal really close to the title after thirteen years. This transfer is a great move Arsene Wenger, excellent investment.
