Karim Benzema has been suspended from the French national team. The ban will remain in place until the end of an investigation into the blackmail and sex tape case. The striker could skip Euro 2016 as a result, the tournament starts in June and will take place in France.
He has been placed under investigation by a French judge as he allegedly tried to blackmail France team-mate Mathieu Valbuena over a sex video. The Real Madrid player denied all charges but he could face at least five years behind bars if found guilty.
France Football Federation president Noel le Grae said that he had to suspend Benzema, but that it was a "heart-breaking" decision for him. Karim Benzema bagged a hat-trick this week in Real Madrid-s 8-0 Champions League victory over Malmo.
France are 3/1 at Bet365 to win next year's European Championship.

In my opinion this is a very fair decision. No doubt Benzema is a very good striker, maybe one of the best central forwards currently, but his behavior is very disgusting. I don't want to judge him but he did not show respect to Valbuena. He's a rich guy and has a very good salary at Real Madrid and gets huge money from...

I think he's a typical footballer: a sports celebrity without brain. This is a very sad news for the French National Team as well but I think Benzema deserved the ban and I hope he will go to jail.

He showed that he has no respect for his national teammates, and no respect for his country, and he deserved everything what is happening to him right now. He is good player, but he worked with criminals, and I believe that suspending from national team is the smallest problem for him right now

This blackmail is a strange sound story around Benzema I think, really don't understand why he would do such a thing but anyway the charges looks very serious and I think not only his career but his whole life is under threat right now. Real probably will get rid of him after season ends, now French national team suspended...
