Back Paddy Power Get on Bad Side of Irish ASA

Paddy Power has managed to get on the bad side of the Irish ASA with its social media advertisement, which has generated numerous complainants claiming it's in poor taste, offensive, racist, and exploits the immigrants in Calais.

The ad features images of sports stars Andy Murray, Raheem Sterling, Mo Farah, Manu Tualigi and Eoin Morgan on a truck that reads:

“IMMIGRANTS JUMP IN THE BACK!

(BUT ONLY IF YOU'RE GOOD AT SPORT)

PADDYPOWER”

One complaint came from someone who says Paddy Power was turning human tragedy into a joke while another said it creates more negativity toward immigrants.

Paddy Power responded saying that it hadn't meant to cause offence and intended to promote advertising campaigns that were humorous and created a buzz.

Irish Advertising Standards Authority deemed the advert inappropriate and directed Paddy Power not to run it again.
