Greek betting firm OPAP responded to plans to introduce a 5 percent tax on wagers claiming that it would reduce gambling activity and affect the Greek government's projected revenue figures.
The tax on betting coupled with a proposed tax on wineries would replace a 23 percent private education tax.
OPAP spokesman Odysseas Christophorou believes implementation of the tax would drive punters to illegal gambling operations and implied that OPAP take to the judicial system for relief.

Yes, I know Greece is in financial crisis but are You kidding me? Illegal gambling will be more popular, You can use proxy servers and an internet banking service (paypal, skrill, neteller, etc...) and the bettor will be tax-free. I think this is only a bad joke not more.

It's quite possible everything they say from OPAP to become reality, I mean this will probably reduce the gambling activity of the local players and would drive punters to illegal gambling operations as the OPAP spokesman said. So I guess there's have to be find some solution to that and agreement between the betting firm...
