Back DraftKings Under Scrutiny

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey recently announced her review of daily fantasy sports and whether or not it is legal in the state and New York Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, among others, is now involved.

Schneiderman sent demand letters to both Fanduel and DraftKings for explanations and information regarding staff and the handling of sensitive data with a response expected by October 15th.

An investigation is underway regarding a DraftKings employee that is being accused of using inside information to win FanDeul's $350,000 football DFS tournament.

Nevada Senator Harry Reid weighed in having issued a statement commissioning Congress to review fantasy sports betting.

"There's absolutely scandalous conduct taking place through those programs, fantasy sports," Reid told the media. "I think it also should be a warning-shot to everybody that online gaming is a real scary thing and we ought to look at all of it."

New Jersey Representative Frank Pallone and Senator Bob Menendez are pressing the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the DraftKings employee involved in the scandal.

In response, DraftKings has eliminated its advertising on ESPN after it planned to reduce the company's marketing within its programs.

ESPN spokesman Paul Melvin said, "It is a standard procedure for us pull these kind of sponsorships and integrations when we are covering breaking news,” Melvin said in a statement issued to USA Today. “We look to avoid any suggestion of influence on our coverage."
