Back Premier League: Chelsea back manager Jose Mourinho

Chelsea have reaffirmed their support to manager Jose Mourinho after the club's worst start to a league season since 1978. Last weekend the Blues were beaten 3-1 by Southampton at Stamford Bridge, leaving them 16th in the Premier League table with just eight points after as many games.

After the match Mourinho said that he does not consider resigning and that the club would have to sack him if they want him to leave. "The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support," read an official club statement."We believe we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it."

After Saturday's defeat, Mourinho said: "I want to make it clear. One, I don't run away. Two, if the club want to sack me they have to sack me because I am not running away from my responsibilities or my team." Captain John Terry also offered his support for the manager, saying that he is the man that can help the team recover from their terrible start to the season. "If anyone is going to get us out of this hole it is going to be Jose Mourinho," said Terry. "We have the best manager, who we remain behind, and we remain together."

Chelsea are currently 21.00 at Bet365 to successfully defend their Premier League title this season.
