FanDuel, a daily fantasy sports market leader in the US, follows DraftKings' move into the eSports sector with the acquisition of eSports operator AlphaDraft.
Market research shows that eSports is a growing industry and Nigel Eccles, founder and CEO of FanDuel, said, “With over 200 million people globally watching eSports, AlphaDraft gives those fans a way to engage with this burgeoning entertainment product. This is sports for a new demographic, with very little crossover with what are considered traditional sports fans, and this acquisition gives us the ability to leverage the expertise of AlphaDraft's team, while helping their efforts in customer acquisition and building awareness of this new industry,”
DraftKings and FanDuel make up 96 percent of the DFS market per Eilers Research.

eSports is more and more popular so this is a very wise decision by these companies. With this move Daily Fantasy Sports operators will bring closer to the users the eSports industry and this is why the number of bettors and users will increase noticeably.

FanDuel and Draft Kings are the two major rival companies at the daily fantasy sports market and now they will fight for the eSports market. It seems logical move from FanDuel to follow their concurrent on this market and will be interesting to see who will take advantage in that race.
