Back Premier League: Liverpool make improved bid for Nathaniel Clyne

Liverpool have made a new bid for Southampton and England right-back Nathaniel Clyne after Southampton rejected a £10m offer last month. The new offer stands at 12.5 million pounds but it is believed that Southampton want 15 million pounds. The player has just one year left on his contract with the Saints, so now would be the best time to sell him as otherwise they might lose him next summer.

Clyne is seen by Liverpool as the perfect replacement for Glen Johnson, who was released from the club. Clyne joined Southampton from Crystal Palace in 2012, made 94 appearances for the Saints and scored three goals. Liverpool are offering him a five-year contract.

The Reds have been quite active this summer, signing five new players so far. The most expensive was Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino, Liverpool paid 29 million pounds to Hoffenheim to get him. The other signings were defender Joe Gomez, midfielder James Milner, striker Danny Ings and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan. Last summer Liverpool spent 50 million pounds for a Southampton trio: defender Dejan Lovren, midfielder Adam Lallana and striker Rickie Lambert.

Liverpool are 21.00 at Bet365 to win the Premier League next season.
