Back Copa America: Chile vs Mexico preview

Chile host Mexico with both sides looking to maintain their unbeaten starts to Copa America as they meet on Tuesday morning. Neither of the two nations has ever won the tournament, but both have come close recently. The two sides have met in a friendly in September 2014 and the result was a goalless draw. The last six meetings between them ended with two wins apiece and two draws.

Chile kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Ecuador, another win would all but secure their passage to the knockout stage. Arturo Vidal scored the opening goal against Ecuador as he converted a penalty kick. Chile have been runners-up at this competition on four occasion, which makes them the most successful side that has never won the tournament. The hosts will be without Matias Fernandez who was sent off in the opening match.

Mexico finished third in three of the last six editions of the Copa America, an finished as runners-up in 2001. They were held to a goalless draw by Bolivia in the opening match, so they need to avoid defeat at all costs against Chile in order to preserve their chances of qualifying. Mexico might try to change things around in attack after failing to score against Bolivia, while Gerardo Flores might be rested as he is one yellow card away from suspension.

Probable line-ups:

Chile: Bravo - Mena, Medel, Rojas, Isla - Pizarro, Aranguiz, Diaz - Sanchez, Vidal, Vargas

Mexico: Corona - Dominguez, Ayala, Marquez, Flores - Aldrete, Corona, Montes, Jimenez - Montes, Fabian

My prediction: Chile to win 3-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Chile win - 1.50 Draw - 4.20 Mexico win - 8.00
