Back Euro 2016 Qualifiers: Croatia vs Italy preview

Croatia will be looking to extend their unbeaten run against Italy when they face them in Split on Friday evening. Croatia are leading Group H but Italy are just two points behind them, so a win for the visitors would change the leadership. Italy have not beaten Croatia in their last seven matches, the last win for them was all the way back in 1942. Croatia have won three of those last seven matches against Italy. The last direct clash was in November 2014, it ended 1-1 with goals from Ivan Perisic and Antonio Candreva.

Croatia recorded four wins out of five matches so far in the qualifying campaign and have lost just one match since the World Cup, a 2-1 friendly defeat against Argentina. However, they don't have a particularly good track record at the Plojud Stadium in Split, they have won just one of their last 11 matches at this arena. Luka Modric will miss out due to a knee injury.

Italy are unbeaten since the World Cup, where they exited the tournament during the group stages. However, they haven't won as many games as they would have wanted. They were held to a 2-2 draw by Bulgaria and only beat Azerbaijan and Malta by one goal. They have scored in every match so far but never more than two goals. Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, Simone Zaza and Luca Antonelli are all sidelined for Italy.

Probable line-ups:

Croatia: Subasic - Srna, Corluka, Vida - Pranjic, Olic, Brozovic, Badelj, Perisic, Rakitic - Mandzukic

Italy: Buffon - Ranocchia, Bonucci, Astori, Darmian, De Sciglio - Candreva, Verratti, Bertolacci - Immobile, Pelle

My prediction: 1-1 draw.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Croatia win - 2.25 Draw - 3.10 Italy win - 3.40
