Back Primera Liga: Luis Enrique extends Barcelona contract

Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique has put an end to all the rumours regarding his future by extending his contract with the club until 2017. The 45-year-old coach led the Blaugrana to a historic treble this season by winning the Champions League, Primera Liga and Copa del Rey during his first campaign in charge.

After the Champions League final he refused to say whether he will remain at the club or not but Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed the new contract on Tuesday. Enrique replaced Gerardo Martino last summer and this season's achievements are on par with Pep Guardiola's glorious campaign six years ago.

In a speech in which he confirmed Enrique's future at the club, Bartomeu also announced that the club intended to make big signings, despite still being under a transfer ban until January 2016. "We have set aside resources to bring in the world's best players - those who everyone wants to sign," he said. So far Barcelona have signed full back Aleix Vidal from Sevilla and they have also secured a new contract for Dani Alves.

Barcelona are 4.50 at Bet365 to win the Champions League again next season.
