Back Premier League: Raheem Sterling expected to demand Liverpool exit

Reds wonderboy Raheem Sterling is expected to inform Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers of his desire to leave Anfield this summer, according to BBC Sport. The 20-year-old England international has turned down a huge new contract of £100,000 per week, saying that he is not a "money-grabber". He did say that he wants to win trophies more than money. Sterling is due to meet Reds chief executive Ian Ayre and manager Brendan Rodgers on Friday, when he will most likely tell them he wants to go. The club have refused to comment on the situation but it's clear that they want to keep Sterling at the club, at least until the end of his contract in 2017.

If Sterling goes on the transfer list Manchester City and Arsenal seem the most interested, but several other big European clubs might also file their offers. If a deal would go through it is believed to be in the region of 35 to 40 million pounds. Liverpool have not won a trophy since grabbing the League Cup in 2012 and have failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has previously said: "Liverpool are one of the superpowers of football and if the owners don't want to sell, they don't have to." Last week captain Steven Gerrard advised Sterling to stay at the club at play for Rodgers, a coach who "believes in him". "I think there is no-one better for him than Brendan Rodgers," said Gerrard, who will leave Anfield after 17 years. "The danger for younger players is they want it all too soon and go to another club and just become a number."

Liverpool are 13.00 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
