Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic extended his domination with a straightforward 6-4 6-3 win over Roger Federer to win the Italian Open final. Djokovic broke in the tenth game of the first set to take the lead and then broke again early in the second set before holding for the win.

This was the 22nd consecutive win for Djokovic, who will go into the French Open as the undeniable favourite. The Roland Garros tournament starts next Monday and Djokovic will have a week to relax and recover until then.

Djokovic looked unstoppable throughout the match as he won his 19th match out of 39 against Roger Federer. "So far, this is the best season of my life," Nole said after the match. "I don't know how it will go at Roland Garros, but I'm very confident. I'm playing with great joy and concentration and I hope to continue. This has been a very exciting week and today was my best match. It's always a big challenge to play Roger and obviously I'm very pleased."
