Back Premier League: Newcastle United vs West Bromwich Albion preview

Newcastle face a crucial game on Saturday, probably the most important game of the season, when they face West Bromwich Albion at St James' Park. The visitors are already safe from relegation but Newcastle's troubles can become even bigger if they fail to win this match. Newcastle defeated West Brom 2-0 in the reverse fixture this season, while the Baggies have won just one of their last six games against the Magpies.

Newcastle have recorded eight consecutive defeats, it's only the second time in their history that they go through such a terrible patch. When Alan Pardew left the club in January there were no relegation worries, but under caretaker boss John Carver everything changed. Last weekend the Magpies were beaten 3-0 at Leicester City and that result left them just two points clear of 18th-placed Sunderland, who have a game in hand. Newcastle will be without Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat, both suspended, while striker Papiss Cisse makes his return from a seven-match ban.

West Brom have secured their Premier League status for another season after grabbing seven points out of their last three games. Last weekend they defeated Manchester United for the first time in club history and before that they held Liverpool to a goalless draw. The Baggies could be without James Morrison, injured.

Probable line-ups:

Newcastle: Krul - Anita, Coloccini, Dummett, Taylor - Gutierrez, Cabella, Colback, Sissoko - Cisse, Perez

West Brom: Myhill - Dawson, McAuley, Olsson, Lescott - Gardner, Yacob, Fletcher, Brunt - Berahino, Anichebe

My prediction: Newcastle to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Newcastle win - 2.60 Draw - 3.30 West Brom win - 3.00
