Back International Friendly: Netherlands vs Spain preview

Spain will have a painful memory to deal with when they face the Netherlands in a friendly match on Tuesday night in Amsterdam. Last summer the Dutch defeated the Spaniards 5-1 at the World Cup, it was the first time that Spain had conceded five goals in a match since 1963. At the 2014 World Cup they never managed to recover from that painful defeat and went home at the end of the group stage.

The Netherlands have a new head coach, with Guus Hiddink replacing Louis Van Gaal after the World Cup. They have played seven matches under the new coach and lost four of them, not exactly the form that one would expect from one of Europe's best footballing nations. Hiddink has to do something to turn things around so he will surely pick the strongest eleven he possibly can for the match against Spain. However, he will be without Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben, both injured.

Spain didn't show great form lately either, but they did clinch three wins in their last four games after succumbing to a shock defeat in Slovakia. Jordi Alba will be missing out through injury and will most likely be replaced by Juan Bernat. Holland have won three of their last four meetings against Spain and half of their ten meetings overall, while Spain were the winners on four occasions.

Probable line-ups:

Netherlands: Krul - Janmaat, Martins Indi, Bruma, Blind - N De Jong, Narsingh, Depay, Afellay, Sneijder - Huntelaar

Spain: De Gea - Carvajal, Bartra, Pique, Bernat - Fabregas, Busquets - Isco, Silva, Iniesta - Juanmi

My prediction: 1-1 draw.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Holland win - 8/5 Draw - 12/5 Spain - 8/5
