Head coach Diego Simeone has signed a contract extension with Atletico Madrid. The new deal will keep him at the reigning Spanish champions until 2020. Simeone, aged 44, has led the club to glory since he has taken charge in 2011, culminating with the Primera Liga title last season and the 2012 Europa League trophy.
They have also reached the final of the Champions League last season but lost to Real Madrid. Now they can have revenge as they face their arch rivals in the Champions League quarter finals. "I am here because I'm convinced the club will continue to grow," Simeone said.
The Argentinian boss is regarded as one of the best coaches in European football and has been linked with a few prestigious clubs, including Manchester City. "Nobody embodies the values of our club more so than Simeone," said Atletico club president Enrique Cerezo. Last season's Primera Liga title was the first for Atletico since 1996.
Atletico Madrid are 16/1 at Bet365 to win the Champions League this season.

Simeone is great coach and Atletico is lucky to have him on the bench. I think that Atletico Madrid will fall in future with or without Diego Simeone. They just don't have enough quality players to fight with Barcelona and Real Madrid. They won title last year but they had a lot of luck and I think that they don't deserve to be even third in Spain because we all know how great Valencia is...

So this is important step for Atletico, they keep Simeone but I think that soon we will see how Simeone leave Atletico for bad results.

Very important step for Atletico Madrid to remain their style and success over the last years and bring that into the future. Diego Simeone is young for a manager and sooner or later he will take the challenge to be manager of another club, but for now I think it's a right move for him to stay in Madrid. There were many rumors that Diego Simeone will leave Atletico Madrid, but now we realize that those rumors were just rumors. Just like kruno said, Simeone is very good manager with so much energy that not many managers have and he is the main reason that Atletico is playing that well. I wish both, him and Atletico, good...

I am so glad that Diego Simeone decided to stay in Atletico Madrid. There are serveal reasons why he shouldn't leave Madrid. First is that he icon in the club, fans love him and he loves them back. Second is that he is right man for a club like Atletico, with his personality and game approach. Third reason is - he will never be happy and safe as he is at the moment. One of the best coaches outthere. I would only love to see him in Chelsea one day, when Jose leaves club. Good luck Diego!
