Back Tennis: Novak Djokovic wins 50th career title

World number one Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 in the BNP Paribas Open final at Indian Wells on Sunday. Djokovic was the better player in the first set but Federer found the strength to fight back in the second from a break down. The Serb then regained his composure in the final set and clinched his fourth Indian Wells crown and 50th career title.

"All the hard work I have done in the off-season has paid off," Djokovic told BBC Sport (link: http://www.bbc.com/sport) after the match. "Nothing has been handed to me. I had to earn this, to fight for it with all the commitment to my everyday routine with my team. Hopefully I can use this confidence for the rest of the season. It's a great start."

"I would like to congratulate Novak on a great final and a wonderful tournament," Federer told Sky Sports (link: http://www.skysports.com). "It's a great start to the season and I hope we can play some more this year." Federer and Djokovic have met 38 times and the epic battle is coming close to a tie as Djokovic has won 18 of those matches compared to Federer's 20 wins. Roger Federer currently has 84 career titles but he had entered the tour five years before Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic is 13/8 at Bet365 to win the second Grand Slam tournament of the season at Roland Garros while Roger Federer is 18/1 to win the tournament.
