Back Tennis: Novak Djokovic eases into Australian Open semi finals

Four-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic did a quick job in overcoming the big serving Milos Raonic to reach the semi-finals. The current world number one ended the match in triumph after just one hour and 55 minutes of play: 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 6-2. This will be the 25th Grand Slam semi final for Djokovic, who is looking to win his eighth major title. The semi final will see Djokovic face defending champion Stan Wawrinka for the third consecutive edition of the tournament.

Raonic had a strong track record in the tournament before the quarter final, having served 99 aces and having dropped his serve just twice in four matches. Djokovic had an answer to that though, his return gave the Canadian much more problems than he was prepared to handle. Djokovic has been broken just once in the entire tournament so far.

Djokovic will play his fifth Australian semi-final against Stan Wawrinka, who defeated Kei Nishikori in straight sets in the quarter finals. The Serb has beaten Wawrinka 19 times before while the Swiss reigning champion beat Djokovic on three occasions. Last year they met in the Australian Open quarter finals and back then Wawrinka won the thrilling match, winning the decisive set 9-7.

Here are the odds for the semi final at Bet365:

Novak Djokovic win - 1/6 Stan Wawrinka win - 4/1
