Back FIFA Presidency: David Ginola proposes combined men and women's World Cups

Fifa presidential candidate David Ginola comes forward with a revolutionary idea: the men's and women's football World Cups to be staged together. The two tournaments are currently hosted separately, by different countries and in different years. The former French player wants "one global spectacular" and he believes such a decision would take the World Cup and women's football "to new heights".

The former Tottenham footballer is being paid £250,000 by a UK bookmaker Paddy Power to run for the presidency of the world football's governing body. In order to be eligible the elections Ginola would need the support of five football associations and he also has to prove active involvement in football for two of the past five years.

"Despite talented players, dedicated fans and far-reaching interest around the sport, women's football continues to be limited by both attitudinal and financial discrimination. In this day and age, it's just not good enough," said Ginola. "One of the key ways we'll make a difference is by adopting the Olympic model that sees all athletes compete under one banner, in one country, during one timeframe."

You can already bet on the winners of the 2018 World Cup, Germany are 9/2 at Bet365 to win it.
