Back Primera Liga: Valencia vs Real Madrid preview

Real Madrid start 2015 with a tough test as they will travel to face fourth-placed Valencia in their first league match after the winter break. Real Madrid have won 12 league matches in a row and have not lost a competitive match since September. However, they were beaten in a friendly match by AC Milan in Dubai during the festive period.

Marcelo will need a late fitness test while Sergio Ramos is also in doubt due to an injury. Real Madrid will face city rivals Atletico Madrid just three days after this match, in the Copa del Rey, so they might also think about preserving fitness for some players. Luka Modric will definitely be out with a thigh problem, most likely it will keep him out until February, but James Rodriguez should be fully fit.

Valencia have been strong at home this season, only one team managed to beat them at the Mestalla and that was Barcelona. Nuno Espirito Santo's men are currently fourth in the Primera Liga table, eight points behind leaders Real Madrid. The home side will be without Javi Fuego, suspended, so new signing Enzo Perez could make his debut. Last season Real Madrid won 3-2 at Valencia but the reverse meeting at the Bernabeu last May ended in a draw.

Probable line-ups:

Valencia: Alves - Mustafi, Orban, Otamendi, Feghouli - Parejo, Piatta, Perez, De Paul - Negredo, Alcacer

Real Madrid: Casillas - Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo, Carvajal - Kroos, Rodriguez, Isco - Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale

My prediction: Real Madrid to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Valencia win - 5/1 Draw - 10/3 Real Madrid win - 8/15
