Thailand police are investigating an online betting ring involving billions of baht via illegal international football wagers.
Senior police officers, Lt General Pongpat Chayaphan and his former deputy Pol Maj-General Kowit Wongrungroj were arrested on corruption charges, extortion and involvement in the illegal activity. They are currently in a prison in Bangkok.
Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri said additional police officers were arrested including Colonel Worraphoj Pheutphol, Lt-Colonel Songsak Khunsri and Withoon Trakarnphruek.
It's also being reported that more than once billion baht (approximately $30 million) in cash and other items were seized from Pongpat's home by police upon his arrest.
Investigations continue to unfold.
