Corruption and Involvement in Illegal Gambling Ring Among Thai Police Department
Thailand police are investigating an online betting ring involving billions of baht via illegal international football wagers. Senior police officers, Lt General Pongpat Chayaphan and his former deputy Pol Maj-General Kowit Wongrungroj were arrested on corruption charges, extortion and involvement in the illegal activity. They are currently in a prison in Bangkok. Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri said additional police officers were arrested including Colonel Worraphoj Pheutphol, Lt-Colonel Songsak Khunsri and Withoon Trakarnphruek. It's also being reported that more than once billion baht (approximately $30 million) in cash and other items were seized from Pongpat's home by police upon his arrest. Investigations continue to unfold.
