Back Premier League: Louis van Gaal not thinking about the title

Louis van Gaal refused to discuss Manchester United's status as title contenders following Sunday's 3-0 victory against Liverpool. The Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League table, five points behind Manchester City and eight lengths behind current leaders Chelsea. Asked if his side can win the title, Van Gaal smiled: "It's not bad, hey? I'm very happy but the next match, against Aston Villa, is very important. It's an away match and we have difficulties with away matches."

Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie scored for United in the clash with their biggest rivals on Sunday. However, the Dutch manager thinks his side still need to improve as Liverpool created many chances to score. The Reds had no less than 19 chances and nine shots on target and Manchester United only escaped with a clean sheet thanks to some magnificent saves from goalkeeper David De Gea.

"I am very satisfied with the result but still I think we can improve," said Van Gaal. "We gave a lot of unnecessary balls away and because of that Liverpool also had chances to score a goal. We had a lot of space in the second half and we could have played the ball very easily but nevertheless we gave the ball away and that is not good. I shall ask the players tomorrow why." Manchester United have won six games in a row for the first time since winning seven in a row during Sir Alex Ferguson's last season in charge.

Manchester United are currently 12/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.
