Ireland’s Online Gambling Tax Delays
The online gambling tax in Ireland is delayed according to minister of finance, Michael Noonan, in a statement to parliamentarians. The topic has been extended into January after Malta expressed concerns regarding the licensing laws for operators already licensed in other jurisdictions. Once the standstill period ends, Minister Noonan intends to move the remaining stages of the bill through parliament. Ireland initially announced its plan to tax online operators in 2011 but there have been a series of delays since then preventing the government from collecting a significant amount of tax money. For example, Paddy Power earns a large portion of its revenue in the online market which would have sent millions in taxes the government's way.
