Back Premier League: Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar criticizes Simon Mignolet

Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is one of the main reasons behind Liverpool's terrible form this season, says former Reds legendary keeper Bruce Grobbelaar. The 57-year-old former goalie has won six league titles with the Reds and says that the Belgian's "weaknesses have been exposed".

"He doesn't command his area," Grobbelaar said in a BBC Sport interview (link: http://www.bbc.com/sport). "I've likened Mignolet to worse than Dracula because at least Dracula comes out of his coffin now and then. He seems to stay on his line." On the other hand, Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel defended 26-year-old Mignolet, following criticism from former Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville last month. But Bruce Grobelaar thinks Mignolet has been performing below the required standards, with Liverpool leaking 18 goals in 12 league games this season.

"Any team that lets in 52 goals should never be in second position in the first place," said former Zimbabwe international Grobelaar after Liverpool finished as runners-up last season. "That was masked and brushed over because of the brilliance of Suarez and Sturridge, scoring you so many goals. You have got to shore up the back. Get yourself someone in goal who can actually only let in 30 goals a season, or fewer than 30 goals."

Liverpool are currently 7/2 at Bet365 to nail a top-four Premier League finish this season.
