Back UEFA Champions League: Arsenal vs Borussia Dortmund preview

Arsenal have been in poor shape lately but they have a good chance of qualifying for the knockout stage of the Champions League. All they have to do is avoid defeat when they face Group D leaders Borussia Dortmund at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. A draw would also suit Borussia Dortmund just fine as it would guarantee they finish top of the group. Arsenal still have a chance to finish top but they would need to beat Dortmund and then hope for a miraculous Anderlecht victory in Germany in the last round of matches.

Last weekend Arsenal dominated Manchester United in their Premier League match but lost 2-1, their second consecutive defeat. On a positive note, French striker Olivier Giroud made his return on the pitch and even scored after recovering earlier than expected from a broken leg. He won't play on Wednesday though as he was not registered for the competition due to his injury.

Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny could miss out after suffering injuries at the weekend. Dortmund will be without quite a few players: Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Sven Bender, Nuri Sahin and Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The Germans have been in terrible shape in the Bundesliga this season, they are currently 16th in the league table, 19 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Probable line-ups:

Arsenal: Martinez - Chambers, Mertesacker, Monreal, Gibbs - Flamini, Arteta - Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sanchez, Podolski - Welbeck

Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Piszczek, Subotic, Ginter, Durm - Gundogan, Kehl - Mkhitaryan,Kagawa, Jojic - Aubameyang

My prediction: 2-2 draw.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Arsenal win - 7/5 Draw - 5/2 Dortmund win - 21/10
