Back Premier League: Daniel Sturridge suffers new injury setback

Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge was close to his return but has suffered a new injury setback in training. The 25-year-old forward suffered a thigh injury on Tuesday and is expected to have a scan to determine the exact extent of the damage.,

Sturridge scored an impressive 25 goals last season, but in this campaign he has played just three Premier League games. He only returned to full training last week. He had suffered a thigh strain during the international break in September and then a calf strain in training in October.

Liverpool have won only four times in 14 matches without the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker and the Reds are currently 11th in the Premier League table. Liverpool have scored just 14 league goals this season with strikers Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert failing to deliver the much-needed goals in Sturridge's absence. Balotelli could also be out for a while after he picked up a hamstring injury on international duty with Italy.

Liverpool are 2/1 at Bet365 to clinch a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
