Andy McCue, the new Paddy Power chief executive as of January 1, 2015, will support his Sportsbet Australia team's lobbying efforts to change Australian digital gambling laws regarding in-play betting.
"One of the clear observations from the Australian market is you can't bet in-play digitally, which is something of an oddity," McCue said in an interview with The Australian Financial Review Weekend.
Cormac Barry, who oversees Sportsbet Australia, expects in-play betting regulations to take center stage with politicians with the Cricket World Cup and the AFC Asian Cup coming to Australia in 2015.
In-play betting is legal via call centers or retail locations; however it's illegal to place bets online or using a mobile device.
