Back Premier League: Arsene Wenger praises new signing Danny Welbeck

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger described striker Danny Welbeck as "electric" after the England forward scored his first professional hat-trick in Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League win over Galatasaray. The striker, aged 23, bagged two goals in the first half and then scored the third after the interval.

Welbeck scoring tally for Arsenal is now at four goals in three games, and Wenger said: "I knew he was quick but he's electric. Hopefully that hat-trick will help him gain confidence." Welbeck played as the central striker against Galatasaray, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez behind him. The four players managed effective combinations, with Welbeck making clever runs to convert passes from Sanchez and Chamberlain.

Welbeck scored 10 goals in 35 games last season for Manchester United, but he was employed mostly on the wings and not as a central striker. Wenger believes that the central position favours Welbeck but admits that having played on the wing helped him develop as a team player. "It always helps to know that you have a good chance to play in the next game," added Wenger. "What's good for me is that his link play is good as well. His teamwork and his work rate is at the level of the team. His attitude is very positive - he's a team player, not just a finisher. He has learned that on the flank and he wants to help the team."

Danny Welbeck is 13/5 at Bet365 to score in Arsenal's Premier League match at Chelsea on Sunday.
