Back UEFA Champions League: Manchester City vs Roma preview

Roma are coming into Tuesday evening's match at Etihad Stadium off a remarkable 100% record after five league games and they have also won their first Champions League group match quite convincingly, 5-1 against CSKA Moscow. Manchester City started their Champions League campaign with a defeat, 1-0 at Bayern Munich. The Germans are favourites to win the group so the battle between City and Roma could be decisive for the second place.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini decided to drop goalie Joe Hart at the weekend but the England keeper could make his return between the sticks on Tuesday, replacing Willy Caballero. Frank Lampard has shown excellent form lately but he will probably be on the bench one again, with Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero most likely to feature in attack. Pablo Zabaleta is available again after having served his one-match suspension, while Samir Nasri will be out with a groin injury.

Roma have a few injury concerns as well: Daniele De Rossi is in doubt while defender Davide Astori will surely be out due to a knee ligament issue. Roma have won on just one occasion in England out of 14 visits. In 2007 they were demolished 7-1 at Old Trafford by Manchester United but both teams have changed quite a bit since then.

Probable starting line-ups:

Manchester City: Hart - Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Kolarov - Milner, Fernandinho, Toure, Silva - Aguero, Dzeko

Roma: De Sanctis - Cole, Manolas, Yanga-Mbiwa, Maicon - Keita, Nainggolan - Pjanic, Totti, Gervinho - Destro

My prediction: Manchester City to win 1-0.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Manchester City win - 4/6 Draw - 16/5 Roma win - 17/4
