Back International Football: France beat Spain in friendly

New Chelsea striker Loic Remy scored the only goal of the match which saw 2014 World Cup quarter-finalists France defeat Spain in a friendly in Paris. Remy was a substitute and he was decisive when he struck home from 16 yards on 72 minutes. This was the third defeat in four games for Spain, who were surprisingly knocked out at the World Cup group stage earlier this summer.

France manager Didier Deschamps said: "Spain used to play with their eyes shut with movement, precision, understanding. Vicente Del Bosque's a very good coach, but he's no more of a magician than anyone else." Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque replied: "It's true we didn't create a clear chance, but we got ourselves into some dangerous positions. It's a regeneration process, and that is what we're aspiring to. You can't always look back in football, and I was pleased with the attitude of the players."

Reigning European champions Spain start their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign against Macedonia on Monday, they are part of Group C which also contains Ukraine, Slovakia, Belarus and Luxembourg. France are already qualified for Euro 2016 as hosts of the tournament.

Spain are 1/12 at Bet365 to win Euro qualifying Group C.
