Alabama Man Caught in Illegal Operation of Sportsbook
An Alabama man, 39-year-old Mark Andrew Edmondson, has entered a plea agreement on chin response to illegal sportsbetting charges. Edmondson is accused of operating the online sportsbetting site, Betkill.net which generated $67,000 in profit over the course of three years. Edmondson's attorney Tommy Spina said, "It's not charged as bookmaking cases have been charged traditionally. The gist of the offense is the transmission of wagering of information on the internet.” "I've been involved in almost every bookmaking case in recent history,'' Spina said. ”This is the first one I've seen charged like this, and it's probably the first one at all in at least 10 years." Edmondson plead guilty to transmission of wagering information which comes with a maximum sentence of two years or a maximum fine of $250,000. He has also turned over all the profits generated from the website. He will be arraigned on September 11th.
