UK Advertising Standards Authority Keeping a Close Eye
Britain's Advertising Standards Authority has been closely monitoring the adverts from online gambling companies and most recently has taken action against Betfred and 888Sports. The ASA received a complaint from a punter regarding a football offer from 888Sports lacking details within the terms and conditions on whether the enhanced odds were only applicable to the first GBP 10 wagered. The ASA deemed the complaint valid citing that 888 should have been more specific. Betfred offered GBP 25 worth of free bets for any bet of GBP 1 or greater but a complaint was submitted to the ASA stating that the conditions associated with the offer were unfair. Again, the ASA deemed the claim valid noting that the advert lacked the 'significant' conditions associated with the offer. Paddy Power was also on the ASA's radar when complaints came rolling in based on the vulgarity of an advert encouraging punter to bet on the best “mass debater”. On this occasion, the ASA sided with Paddy Power and took no action.
