Two More Asian Illegal Gambling Busts
Another gambling ring has been busted in Vietnam resulting in the arrest of 11 people including the alleged ring leader, Duong Ba Lieu (48). It has been reported that the ring dealt with more than $235 million in wagers and was based out of Bim Son in the Thanh Hoa province; however it ran using foreign web domains. Another bust of an online sport betting ring took place in Singapore resulting in the arrest of 15 people and the seizure of 880,000 Singapore dollars. "This is the fourth in a series of operations which the police had conducted as part of our continuous efforts to clamp down hard and fast on illegal online soccer betting," said Superintendent Lawrence Eng,also the head of the Specialised Criminal Branch of CID. "From these operations, police have arrested a total of 56 suspects and seized cash of about S$2.8 million. Bookmakers who assume that they can hide behind the anonymity of the Internet to commit criminal offences would face the full extent of the law upon their arrest."
