Sports Betting Ring Busted in Malaysia
Malaysian police busted another online sports betting ring accepting World Cup football wagers generating Malaysian Ringgit 7.5 million (US $2.33 million) per day. According to CID Deputy Director DatukMazlan Mansor, there were four men operating the ring which has been on the police radar for the past month. Police recovered three laptops, two iPads, two broadband modems and 30 log books complete with betting information. "They were detained to assist investigations under Section 6 (3) of the Betting Act 1953 as they were believed to be gambling syndicate agents," Masor said. "This is the first time we seized the servers used for gambling. We are still investigating the website," he said.
