Back Premier League: Louis Van Gaal wants instant success at Manchester United

New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to replicate his previous achievements at Barcelona and Bayern Munich by winning the league in his first season. The Dutch coach won the Primera Liga title with Barcelona in 1998 and then secured the Bundesliga crown in 2010 with Bayern Munich. Only three managers have won the Premier League in their first season: Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti with Chelsea and Manuel Pellegrini with Manchester City.

"I would be proud if it works right away," said Van Gaal. The manager added his immediate objectives were to return United to "number one spot" as soon as possible and that fans "will think they are champions of England again within a year". "Spain saw me succeed in my first year and in Germany as well. In England, it must also be possible. But there can only be one champion."

Van Gaal has won seven league titles with four different clubs: Ajax, Barcelona, AZ Alkmaar and Bayern Munich. Manchester United finished the Premier League season in seventh place and failed to qualify for an European competition for the first time in 25 years. Van Gaal said he was already in deep discussion over new signings for next season but refused to name names or give an estimate of his transfer budget.

Everton rising star Ross Barkley could be one of the top names on Van Gaal's list, here are the odds for his transfer at SkyBet:

Chelsea - 3/1 Manchester Utd - 4/1 Liverpool - 10/1 Arsenal - 14/1 Manchester City - 14/1
