Malaysian Police Preparing for Cyber Patrolling as World Cup Approaches
Online sports operators with focus on the Malaysian punter will need to step lightly as the FIFA World Cup in June approaches as Malaysian police will be on high alert during this time. Police Federal Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Roslee Chik spoke to The Star regarding the increase in police cyber monitoring. Referring to a prior World Cup Event, Chik said, “We raided 270 premises throughout the country for about a month and seized RM110,124 in cash. The syndicates were believed to have collected RM 419.2 million in bets directly and via online transactions.” Police will team up with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to uncover illegal online betting activity.
