Cycling: Bradley Wiggins unsure of Tour de France participation
Sir Bradley Wiggins has admitted there are some doubts over his place in this year's edition of the Tour de France. Wiggins won the Tour de France in 2012 but missed last year's edition when team-mate Chris Froome won the coveted title. Wiggins finished ninth in the very difficult Paris-Roubaix race on Sunday but admitted after crossing the finish line that his participation in the Tour de France is not guaranteed. "It's not as simple as saying 'you've won the Tour so you're an automatic on the start sheet'," Wiggins said. Chris Froome is set to lead Team Sky in this year's Tour de France which starts in Yorkshire on July 5th. Shane Sutton, British Cycling's technical director, recently said: "That Tour team really is Froome's team - he's the current holder and there's a lot of faith in him at Team Sky. They will put the best riders available on the grid for Chris to win the Tour come July and I'm not sure whether Brad is going to be on that list." Wiggins replied: "I'll do everything possible to try and be there but obviously as Sutton said, it is Chris's team and he'll have a big say in who he puts around him and who he's confident having in front of him in the mountains. My job is to continue doing what I'm doing, go to the Tour of California and get the result I want there, come back and put in a good performance and good team role in the Criterium du Dauphine, and warrant a Tour place. Because one thing this team has is a lot of strength in depth, particularly in the mountains. I would love to be there. I've proved I've got the legs at the moment and I'm coming to where I need to be now, if I can just push on really."
