Premier League: Tottenham sack Andre Villas-Boas
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas said he will not quit after a humiliating 5-0 home defeat at the hands of Liverpool, his side's worst home defeat in 16 years. Spurs have won just one of their last six home league games, and have suffered another heavy beating recently, 6-0 at Manchester City last month. Asked if his job was safe after such results, Villas-Boas said: "That decision is not mine. I won't resign and I'm not a quitter. The only thing I can do is work hard with the players to try and get the results that we all want." The club announced on Monday that the manager is sacked. "The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach Andre Villas-Boas for the termination of his services," said a Spurs statement. "The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties." Villas-Boas has spent around 105 million pounds on new players last summer after selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. The only positives of the season are the club's qualification to the League Cup quarter-finals and last 32 of the Europa League. The manager "accepted responsibility" for their latest defeat, which was even worse than the score line might indicate. Spurs failed to register a shot on target against Liverpool! Tottenham had Paulinho sent off in the second half for a high tackle on Luis Suarez. The Spurs remain seventh in the league table, five points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, while Liverpool are second. The early names being linked with replacing the Portuguese manager include current Russia boss and former England manager Fabio Capello, Roberto Di Matteo and Swansea manager Michael Laudrup. Here are the odds at Bet365 for Tottenham's next permanent manager: Fabio Capello - 7/4 Michael Laudrup - 4/1 Guus Hiddink - 7/1 Tim Sherwood - 8/1 Frank De Boer - 10/1
