Capital One Cup: Newcastle vs Manchester City preview
Both Newcastle United and Manchester City head into theCapital One Cup tie on Wednesday after disappointing weekend results in the Premier League. Alan Pardew's Newcastle were defeated 2-1 by Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby, the first win of the season for the Black Cats. Mathieu Debuchy scored to make it all square after Steven Fletcher's early opener but Fabio Borini bagged a late goal to give Sunderland all three points. Newcastle have won five and lost four of their 11 matches so far this season, the first of those defeats being at the hands of Wednesday's opponents Manchester City, who won 4-0 on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. There are no fresh injury concerns for Pardew before Wednesday's game though, with Ryan Taylor as a long-term casualty and Fabricio Coloccini still recovering from a groin injury. Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini will be looking to steady the ship after recording the third Premier League defeat of the season last weekend, 2-1 at the hands of title rivals Chelsea on Sunday. Sergio Aguero bagged an equaliser for City after Andre Schurrle's first half goal but a terrible mix-up between Joe Hart and Matija Nastasic handed Fernando Torres an unexpected chance to tap home a late winner. Joe Hart will most likely be on the bench for the cup clash at St James' Park, with Costel Pantilimon expected to feature between the sticks for the Citizens. Captain Vincent Kompany will be unavailable as he is still recovering from a thigh injury. Here are the odds for the match at Bet365: Newcastle win - 4/1 Draw - 3/1 Manchester City win - 8/11
